TO BE RELEASED: DATE: December 18, 2008 TIME: Immediate RE: NEW
“KIDS SAFETY ZONE” |
The Sault Ste Marie
Police Service is always dedicated to keeping kids safe.
Community Services Officers
and the High School Liaison Officers attend on a regular basis to all our local
elementary and secondary schools and provide education and information to
students on a number of safety programs. They also conduct presentations to
students, community groups, local businesses and other members of the public on
topics such as bullying, cyber bullying, drugs, alcohol, Internet safety,
racism, vandalism, theft, etc.
The Community
Services Branch has been very busy working on a new initiative to enhance the
Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s current web site to be able to reach kids,
parents and teachers more easily via the Internet. With so many kids on the computer these days,
we felt this would be a great way to reach kids and provide education on the important
issues that they face on a daily basis.
Officers from the
Community Services Branch embarked on this project in early June of this year
and brainstormed as to what would be included in the new link. A very talented
Graphic Web Designer was hired through the Summer Student Program to assist the
officers in designing and creating the link and adding it onto the Sault Ste
Marie Police Service’s current web site. The new link is called the “Kids
Safety Zone”. The link is available in
an English and French version.
This link will
address the important issues that kids face on a daily basis and that may
affect our entire community. Our goal is
to help kids stay safe and to develop a positive attitude towards safety.
Kids and members of
the public including parents, teachers and coaches can obtain information on
the challenging issues kids may be up against and some of the resources and
services that are available to assist them. Kids will enjoy an educational,
interactive and fun link just for them on a variety of subjects.
Kids can even e-mail
the officers in the Community Services Branch directly to answer questions or
to assist them with problems that they, or someone they know are having
regarding these issues.
The Sault Ste Marie
Police Service is hoping that this pro-active approach to providing this
information and education through the Internet will assist children greatly and
make our community a much safer place to live.

If you have any
further questions regarding the site, or wish to have a live interview clip,
